A New Yorker in Exile

A self exiled New Yorker left to explore the world on his own... okay left to explore the world with some help from a few friends... but they aren't New Yorkers. My latest pursuits: home brewing, discrete mathematics, correspondence chess, wine tasting, house cleaning, dog walking, writing more (hence why I'm updating this blog again) and the usual hey what can the world teach me today.

Two Hours at the Spa

I never realized how relaxing going to a spa could be, not to mention the fact that it sounds completely girlie. If you always wondered what it would be like its at the minium an experience and worth time and well earned money. You will walk out relaxed and different person. Change is good.

Just a Good ol' Boy

When I was about 5-6 years old, I remember watching a show that captured my interest from behind the television screen in my grandmothers bedroom on the upper east side. Little did I know that it took place in a county named Hazard, in the state (not country) of Georgia.

When I first laid eyes on the preview, and yes the preview not Jessica Simpson, I knew that I had to see this movie. It looked funny and full of good ol' adventure. [To bad I'm not getting paid every time I using the word ol'.] And it was!!!

After so thoroughly drawn in, laughing, and enjoying the action I knew this was after all, a good ol movie. Of course I was worried about seeing the "stars and bars" accenting the infamous General Lee. And for a split second I was thankful that the Yankees won the war. So when I saw how it was handled I found it to be amusing and appropriate.

Reflecting upon the film further and shortly before the credits where done I realized two important points. That ignorance gets you in trouble and equal opportunity in today's government agencies, such as a police department (or think even in our military) has very important and recognizable benefits.

Finally, it's hard to imagine that even a film like the "Dukes of Hazard" could be political, but it is. Just think, a story about two young men who want to save there homeland and know that by doing it they have to cut through the bureaucracy, and deal with high stake emotions without ever loosing there cool. Politicians still serve a purpose, despite there predictably, while simultaneously promoting the environment and keeping their constituents happy or high. In the end it's nice to know that when your heart is in the right place, everything works out and having a kick ass car makes it all the fun.

Fantastic Four

Nothing else screams summer fun like going to see a movie. An escape from the sun, heat, humidity, and driving around with the hope that the air conditioning will kick in fast enough so you are not a ball of ucky, smelly, sweat. What a pleasant change to any afternoon when you can kick back, and relax behind the movie screen.

Today's selection, "Fantastic Four". Another film in a series based on comic book super heros. But what is this do I see, it takes place in New York... Ahhhh, New York. [If you haven't seen it yet then don't read on.] I thoroughly enjoyed the first action scene after the main characters become aware of their powers and which was cinematicly shot on my favourite bridge-- The Brooklyn Bridge. But I couldn't help but cringe when the car accident continued to pile up, car after car, after car. Then through in a boldly looking FDNY ladder truck. As this scene unfolded I was distracted at the idea that this multicar misfortune would screw up traffic in the whole city. What is a New Yorker to do? Well this one was so distraught that an accident like this would screw up traffic all day for the innocent civilians, and less concerned for the main characters and primary action.

Where am I

Explanation

Okay, so I have been absent... Why, you ask... well I have been traveling, relaxing, and recovering from a very long and tough year. Just think, if you started to take care of your teenage sister, worked a job that had irregular (and keep in mind very long) hours, and went to school part time, you would need a break too. Don't get me wrong, this is not an excuse-- but an explanation. I know my southern girl-- friend has gotten on my case and is threatening my life if I don't get off my ass and make a post. So wahla.

Location

Since my last post this New Yorker was not far from home at all and loved every New York minute. Although many interesting things happened and life was grand for a very short week and two days I didn't see the need to complain about anything or express observations about non-New Yorkers. Shortly after returning back from New York I worked my last two weeks at my current duty station and went to L.A. After L.A. I finished my Systems Analyisis and Design class, and traveled again to the east coast yet again to visit friends.

Expectation

So where does this leave us? I intend to discuss and explore my various experiences from the past two months and continue to wish that I was back in the greatest city of all. So until then, start spreading the news, this New Yorker is back.
