A New Yorker in Exile

A self exiled New Yorker left to explore the world on his own... okay left to explore the world with some help from a few friends... but they aren't New Yorkers. My latest pursuits: home brewing, discrete mathematics, correspondence chess, wine tasting, house cleaning, dog walking, writing more (hence why I'm updating this blog again) and the usual hey what can the world teach me today.

Spring into Summer

These last few days of spring are the best. They have the longest hours of sunlight and the weather is perfect.

I have my new charcol weber going, a lemon accented hefeweizen in hand, and the light from the sun lighting up the day just right.

If I could have more days like this, then life would be grand.

Got to go... the burgers are almost ready.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

After about 20 minutes of previews and don't get me wrong I love previews, but twenty minutes come on, the movie started. Talk about desperate movie production companies. I was very skeptical about the movie from the first day I laid eyes on the preview, go figure those previews are everywhere. But it was my friends birthday which gave me very little manuevering room.

It started off slow, but I think that is often a sign of a good movie, and then bam, the audience was placed in the middle of the action, full of comedic scenes and like of one very good looking Angelina Jolie. I have to admit, she exudes a very exuberante display of feminie beauty.

Besides all the action, comedy, and good-ol Hollywood fun there is a very obvious feminisit undertone. From the word go Angelina Jolie's character Jane is in top form. She drives the better car, uses the better equipment, and much more (just in case you haven't seen it I don't want to ruin it for you.) Becuase of this I think the movie should have been titled Mrs. and Mr. Smith, but maybe society is not there yet, however this movie is one big step in that direction.

The Slicer

Jerry: You can't do that. Well, maybe Kruger wasn't the place for you.

George: It seemed so disorganized.

Jerry: I understand.

George: What about the Coast Guard? Seems like a lot of pride there, a lot of tradition.

Jerry: True. You mean, for you?

George: I think.

Jerry: What about your sea sickness?

George: Maybe I could be a land guy.

Jerry: I don't know if they have land guys.

George: Someone's have to unhook the boat before it leaves...the place!

I hoped you enjoyed the clip.

Loosing Google's Lock on the Past

My nieghbor, who has had little time to read and not enought time to work without pressure, gave me his NY Times, ahhhh New York Times. So I sat, kicked back with paper in hand and perused to see what would catch my eye, wahla, a story about how to get Google to show better google searches of your name.

For those who don't know, try googling your name and see what shows up. This is also a way to see what your potential partner or date has been up to. But it is not full proof. Which is why you need to read the article so when people google you, your best face.

Paris

Summer time brings about ideas of escaping the regular part of your life. The part where you wake up, go to work, come home, make dinner, and repeat 4 times. So when the season changes to warm sunny weather, ideas of tropical islands, late nights drinking, and general rest and relaxation comes to mind.

A few years ago I spent a few weeks in Europe with one of those weeks in Paris. Most of my time was spent visiting many musuems, la Tour Eiffel, the conclusion of the Tour de France, and the traditional and world renowned Parisian cafes. I spent plenty of hours during that trip sitting, sipping expresso, watching parisians walk by and enjoying the beautiful city.

So when I sit and fret about all the small and big things that stress me out, I think back to those days when I sipped espresso underneath the Paris sun. And it is this memory I hope to visit again.

I'm Getting Older Too

As I sat down in the theather to watch a movie I saw the preview for the new Willy Wonka story. A movie I remember watching as a kid. As I was ingrossed by the remake I realized that this was the first time in my life that I am witnessing a remake of a movie I have seen before. I figured this is the point in my life where I am starting to see signs of growing older.

It dosen't help either that my high school ten year reunion is coming up in August.
